In this November 1985 photo, the Atlantic Coast Line engine #1504 (a 1919 Pacific) is in front of the Seaboard System Railroad building with the Acosta Bridge lift span partially obscures the raised Florida East Coast two track Bascule bridge. The engine has since been relegated to a nearby parking lot. The building is now the CSXT General Office Building. The  SR 13 highway bridge has been replaced by a wider, higher concrete one. And the 1925 replacement of the January 5, 1890 single track railroad swing bridge, the first bridge across the St. Johns River, still remains in FEC ownership. A look at a time in history. —— CJVY

Featured Item: Henry Plant's Transportation Empire DVD.

Plant System DVD cover

The Southeast Chapter of the Railway & Locomotive Historical Society has available our video documentary of the Henry Plant Transportation Empire. As a part of the Southeast Chapter's efforts to document, preserve and promote railroad history, in keeping with the R&LHS goals,  our chapter undertook this project in late 2007. Written by noted author and historian Ed Mueller, a Southeast Chapter member, the production chronicles the life history of Henry Bradley Plant. Employing nearly two hundred photographs and original map graphics to present the story, and with narration by Southeast Chapter members, we believe the production is a first class presentation of this history. The production was edited and produced by John A. Leynes Jr. The package contains two disks, the video DVD, and the narration extract on an audio CD-ROM as a "book-on-tape". The narrators include such notables as Seth Bramson, Don Hensley, Dick Hillman, Bill Howes and Lyle Key. The production is copyrighted.

The retail price is $20, and we pay the shipping. Copies can be ordered by personal check, from Southeast Chapter Treasurer, Robert Van Nest, at:
